Background Bonuses

As all the party are new to role-playing we have not explored any more than the mechanics of how encounters work and how to kill bad guys. Therfore Garry (the former DM) suggested we award bonus of anyone who submits a character background to the DM. Hopefully this will help each player feel more in touch with their character inbstead of them just being a metal model they move around the board to kill monsters. I will not be postings the backgrounds yet as it is not yet clear how much character will know about each other, these may get added at a later date. But the bonuses are to be as follows once everyone has completed and sudmitted their background.

Eligos - Tiefling Warden

Nature Sense – Once per day in a natural environment when Eligos would make a initiative check she can use a nature check in place of her initiative check, also the whole party gain a +4 bonus to all defences until the end of the first round of the encounter.

Glen – Dwarf Fighter

Former Trader - Glen has a 50% chance of selling items for an extra 25%

Expert Swimmer - Glen can reroll athletics checks used to swim or tread water once per encounter

Note: Glen has extra bonuses as Sarah submitted a 2 page backstory.

Hogar – Half-Orc Beast master Ranger

Orc Hatred – Hogar scores a critical hit on orcs with a natural roll of 18,19 or 20.

Minron – Minotaur Hybrid Fighter/Cleric

Bloodied Ferocity- The first time Minron is bloodied during an encounter he can make a melee basic attack as a free action, if he does so, he grants combat advantage until the end of his next turn.

Vicrael – Half Elf Bard

Half Eladrin Teleport – Once per day as a move action Vicrael can Teleport 5 squares

Rodney – Human Wizard

Desert Blacksmith - 4 Fire Resistances

The Shadow Rift





After descending the bloodied chains the titans found themselves in a nightmare. Crimson streams spilled from above and form a shallow pool of ankle deep blood in the centre of the chamber. A yawning, black portal dominates the northern wall of the chamber. Something strains against the darkness within, as if it were a thin film keeping back a vicious clawed beast. A circle of blazing runes has been inscribed on the floor before the portal. Opposite the portal, a massive statue of Orcus stands. It points toward the darkness with a skull-capped wand. To the east, steps rise to a platform where a pit is flanked by two smaller statues of Orcus To the west, another set of steps ascends to a 10-foot-high ledge supporting an altar of bone and several wide pillars. A human wearing a horned helm and carrying a skull-capped rod stands behind the altar, Kalarel. His eyes are closed, and a book rests open before him. He chants a low, droning prayer. Frieda and Rodney know that there is only about 30 seconds before the ritual will be complete and the portal will open. Also placed around the room are 8 skeletal guards, these are joined by the Orcus Berserker Eric commanded down the pit and the clay scout.

Glen and Bob charged west, out towards the skeletons. Bob’s feet slipped on the bloodied floor and brought him tumbling to the ground. Glen navigated the shin high blood and took a hapless swing at a sentinel. Frieda and Eric headed east to tackle the Berserker and Wight, with the help of Rodney’s Flaming Sphere. Frieda quickly dispatched a skeleton with ease, only for the Wight’s chants to bring it back to its feet. Eligos quickly changed into her Ram guardian and dispatched the clay scout on route to Kalarel with her infernal wrath. Rodney fired off some Icy rays towards the Wight and the Berserker before also heading off to stop Kalarel. Once Glen had dispatching the Skeletons around him, with some help from Rodney’s Thunderwave, also charged towards the evil wizard. With Kalarel outnumbered and some very powerful strikes from Glen’s Urgrosh he quickly became bloodied and Teleported himself in to the circle of blazing runes. Meanwhile Eric, Frieda and a very immobile Bob (due to rolling around in blood and being immobilized) had cleared the east side of the room with a series of sneak attacks, lances of faiths and enfeebling strikes. Noticing that Kalarel had left his Horned Helmet behind when he teleported Eligos donned it and charged at Kalarel flinging him out of the rune circle and placing him on the floor. He quickly bounced to his feet and charged back.

By now the Rift was beginning to stir as the ritual was complete, and after many missed attempts to lure the Divine character into the portal, it start to spew undead. Firstly two Zombies Rotters followed by four vampire spawn and two more rotters.

Eligos was not the only one to find a Magical items lying around, atop of alter Rodney spotted a sacrificial dagger, knowing it was a supernatural he sent the item toward Frieda with the use of his mage hand. Too impatient to wait for the dagger to arrive, mainly due to rocks trying to flatter her from above, Frieda snatched the dagger from the magic hand and hurled it towards the vampire spawn, dispatched one and missing another.

Bob’s moment eventually came as moved into a position to flank Kalarel with the help of Eligos. As he lifted Aecris is began to glow, as if the sword was crafted for this moment, a quick swing of Keegan’s weapon took Kalarel head clean off and it sailed into the portal as the wizards body collapsed on the floor.

The rift was still throwing also sorts of Undead at the titans, so as Glen, Bob, Eligos and Eric re-killed whatever the portal threw at them Rodney and Frieda combined to shut the portal down. But with the whole keep still falling down the party quickly exited the keep, but not before Rodney grabbed the Wight’s Magical cloak. The ruined keep fell room after room as the titans escaped and one they reached the surface the main wall collapsed with a almighty clap so loud that the part were left defended.

Cathedral of Shadows

We start our Blog at towards the end of Keep on the Shadow Fell.

The Titans have hacked their way relatively easily through a bunch of Zombie and a Ghoul and entered a Cathedral. On entering the Cathedral they see a priest atop an alter chanting to Orcus with two undead guards besides glowing green pillars either side of a pit. As Bob seems to have the jump on most of the party, bar Eric, he charges at one of the Berserkers, he quickly finds that there are 5 vampires and a strange looking dark gnome. With the help of the other Berserker they swarm around him and quickly bloodied Bob. The rest of the party are quickly on hand to dispatch a Berserk and kill off a few of the Vampires, and give Bob a heal. By this time the Priest had entered the fray and had a pop at Bob. But almost as quickly as the Priest had cast a spell he is hit with a Sleep spell from Rodney, this slowed him and a Vampire and then knocked him unconscious, this gave Frieda the change to Crit him with her sneak attack while he slept then spend an action point to Crit him again, this deal a massive 63 damage in one turn! Eligos then wandered over pinged him and he died, much to Frieda’s annoyance! During this melee Eric had commanded the second Berserker to walk down the pit. Then the rest of the Vampires and the gnome were quickly dispatched.

The Titans looked around and saw 4 dead vampires (having pulled one down the pit) one dead Berserker and a priest with a slit throat. But no Treasure, much to Glen’s annoyance. They also see that there is a bloodied chain down the pit to the level below.

After Rodney had cast his flaming sphere down the hole and found that there was a dead vampire down there the group decide to descend the chain. Bob and Eligos use Rodney’s floating disc to descend, the rest of the party try the chain. Frieda and Glen pass their DC to slide down the chain with no trouble, Eric and Rodney fail, but while falling Rodney casts Feather Fall on Eric to unsure only he takes and fall damage.
